Who Is Running Iraq Taekwondo Federation

Iraqtaekwondo has been in a state of confusion for over 4 years and nobody cares toknow what is really going on.

The lastlegitimate President of Iraq Taekwondo Federation was Dr. Mahmood Shukur whowon the election in 2008 after a long struggle against those who wanted to stagea takeover in the federation.

After theelection Dr. Mahmood brought on board Kiarash Bahri from Iran who was a memberof World Taekwondo Games Committee and the Deputy Secretary General of AsianTaekwondo Union trying to bring stability to Iraq Taekwondo Federation.

At the timeIraq Taekwondo Federation was in desperate need of someone to have greatexperience in directing its taekwondo and its image internationally and theaddition of National Team Technical manager – Kiarash Bahri - who also directedthe international affairs of the federation seemed the missing piece of the puzzlefor Iraq taekwondo.

Steadygrowth was apparent in Iraq taekwondo from 2012 to 2015 and Iraq taekwondo startedflourishing as daily operations became more stable.

For thefirst time in Iraq Taekwondo history, in 2013, a Kukkiwon Grand Master wasbrought to Iraq to conduct a Kukkiwon test in two cities of Erbil in north andBasra in the south.

In the sameyear to educate and train Iraqi coaches a “Coaches Seminar” was conducted inErbil city by another Korean Grand Master.

In addition toimprove the technical level of Iraqi taekwondo athletes, an Iranian coach whowas a member of the coaching staff that later won the WT Junior World Championshipwas hired to train the Iraq National Junior team and prepare them to participatein the Arab Junior Championship in Jordan in 2013.

NationalJunior team for the first time in its history bagged a Gold medal to go alongwith its silver in the Arab Junior Taekwondo Championships in Amman, Jordan.

Internationallyfor the first time in Iraq taekwondo history President of Iraq TaekwondoFederation, Dr. Mahmood Shukur, was named the Vice Chairman of World TaekwondoEducation Committee.

In themeantime for the senior national team, a young Iranian coach who was a veterantaekwondo Champion called Reza Naderian was hired to train the senior Iraq NationalTeam.

Iraq Taekwondohad stepped in the right direction to develop and fulfill its capacities as anOlympic sport but unfortunately for Iraq taekwondo things started to go badlyin mid-2015.

Thecrumbling of the Iraq Taekwondo Federation started with a forgery scandal.

In 2015 itwas uncovered that some of the Iraq Taekwondo Federation and Iraq OlympicCommittee apparently forged the signature of the National Team manager –Kiarash Bahri - on his contract submitted to the Iraq National Olympic Committee.

There was a bitter dispute between them and as a result, he left Iraq TaekwondoFederation.

Late in 2015another scandal hit Iraq Taekwondo Federation as it became clear that rumorscirculating for some time about inappropriate use of funds by Dr. Mahmood andhis Secretary General was true.

TKD PLUSreporter through a confidential source was told that the shady business rundeep within the federation with the help of some Iraq National Olympic Committeeofficials.

The result of these events did not help Iraqtaekwondo and even made the President of the federation, Dr. Mahmood Shukur, leave Baghdad for the Kurdistan region in North of Iraq in a hurry where theIraqi federal government could not easily reach him.

Since thattime Iraq Taekwondo Federation as an independent association is virtuallynonexistent and has been run by Iraq National Olympic Committee officials.

IraqNational Olympic Committee officials that see a lot of personal benefit incontrolling Taekwondo Federation has virtually refused to hold an election toselect a new President for the Iraq Taekwondo Federation in the last 4 years andit does not look as if the Iraq National Olympic Committee has any immediate plansto hold an election in the near future either.

This the situation seems satisfies all parties involved to the point that even the AsianTaekwondo Union and the World have also preferred to hear no evil and see noevil.

In themeantime Iraq taekwondo is in disarray and crooked and unscrupulous characters areusing taekwondo in Iraq for their own benefit, to fill their pockets while sometrue taekwondo men sitting on the sidelines and hoping that maybe one day againwith the help of World Taekwondo, Iraq taekwondo can set course in the rightdirection for a brighter future.
